For anyone interested in animation, past travels to Russia yielded a wonderful personal collection of rare animation acetate cels. It's a dying art. Disney resorted to computer technology way back in 1989. This type of animation is a thing of the past and these Russian examples are the old style of hand drawn animation.
This collection available now is a variation of Alice in Wonderland c. 1960's. These beautiful collectable pictures are something to be enjoyed and appreciated. And if the value appreciates - then that's a bonus. In the words of a Sotheby's specialist: 'You can't predict the future.' Get them while you can. There will be no more after these are sold.
You will receive them as an animation cel, many with a matching line drawing as listed, ready for mounting and framing.
Each comes with a certified guarantee. Remember these are one-offs. Each original hand painted cel (acetate) accounts for 1/24 second of film. The picture you receive will be of a fraction of a second away from the item illustrated.
Note: Illustrations are not to scale. Actual dimensions are shown height x width in cm. of the acetate (cel) and (in brackets) the image. * indicates no matching pencil drawing and price is reduced by £5.
There's a story behind the exclusivity of these Russian images. My colleague came from Sydney to see me in Hampstead, London via Moscow. As we went to dinner we passed a Gallery featuring animation cels. He remembered seeing a mound of the acetate cels during his Moscow call and promptly telephoned our third partner to buy up the stock. Too late. The Russians with the same fervour that the BBC employed wiping early video tapes of classic programmes, chose to reclaim the acetates for further use and wiped the majority of their stock! Our collection are the remnants of that film that borrowed from Alice and Wonderland. Truly unique..... |
